Colossians 1:9-11
I. Knowledge.
A. The opposite of knowledge is ignorance. We are told that we are not ignorant of the devil's schemes. It is his purpose to keep us in defeat by ignorance of the Word (Hosea 4:6; Mark 4:14-15).
B. If we expect to walk in the power of God then we must have knowledge of the Word (Mark 12:24).
C. A knowledge of the
Word of God works effectively when we put faith in it (1 Thess. 2:13).
II. Wisdom.
"A wise man is strong..." (Prov. 24:5-6).
A. A wise man is not one who will just hear the Word of God, but he will apply it and be an overcomer (Matt. 7:24-25).
B. The Bible tells us exactly how we can receive God's wisdom during times of testing (James 1:2-5).
C. The Benefits of Wisdom
(Proverbs 3).
III. Spiritual Understanding.
"Through wisdom is an house builded; and by UNDERSTANDING it is established..." (Prov. 24:3-4).
A. Understanding is grasping the meaning of something. In the natural sense it is intellectual comprehension. Spiritual understanding is a heart revelation from the Holy Spirit.
B. It is not enough to KNOW God's Word and have the WISDOM to apply it, we must have a revelation of it in order for it to be a reality to us (Acts 19:11-16; Matt. 13:19-23).
C. Understanding brings victory (Proverbs 2:11)
