Eph. 2:1-5
The Christian is a soldier of Jesus Christ
and must contend with three enemies in his Walk with the Lord.
I. The World.
1. The world hates you. Anyone who hates you is your enemy - John 15:18-19; 1 John 2:15-17.
2. Jesus' prayer gives us some underlying principles for victory - John 17:6-23.
(a) Acknowledge that you are taken out of the world (v. 6-14).
(b) Appropriate God's protection (v. 15-17).
(c) Bringing others to Christ: your reason for being in the world (v. 18-23)
3. By faith we take Christ's
victory - Gal. 1:4; 1John 5:4-5.
II. The Flesh.
1. We are in a constant battle with our flesh - Rom. 7:23.
2. We overcome the flesh by putting on Jesus - Rom. 13:14.
(a) How to put on Jesus - Eph. 4:22-29; Rom. 6:10-14.
3. Through the power of
the Holy Spirit we walk in victory - Rom. 8:9-13; Gal. 5:16-18.
III. The Devil.
1. The Bible makes it clear that the devil is our enemy - 1 Peter 5:8-9.
2. The devil is the one who lends power to our other two enemies – James 4:2-7; 1 John 5:18-19.
3. This already defeated
enemy is overcome by the Blood of Jesus and theWord of God - 1 John 2:13-14;
Rev. 12:10-11
When we appropriate God's victory in our
lives we will always be overcomers and victorious ones, drawing others
into the kingdom.
