PRAYING IN UNITY
"And the Lord said, 'Behold, the people is ONE....and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do." (Genesis 11:6).
There is nothing more powerful in the universe than a church on one accord praying together.
I. The Concept Of Praying In Unity.
"These all continued with ONE ACCORD in prayer and supplication...." (Acts 1:14)
Unity and one accord are the same.
Because of their evil (Gen. 11) God had to scattering them. Centuries later, Scattered people came together as one and receive one of the greatest blessings of all time (Acts 2:1-6).
This unity did not stop there but continued daily (Acts 2:46).
Miracles were done because the church was in unity (Acts 4:24-32; 5:12).
Evangelism was effective because of unity (Acts 8:6).
The reason we don't see the power of God as they did in the early church is because of the lack of unity.
II. How Do We Begin To Pray In Unity?
"That ye may with ONE mind and ONE mouth glorify God, even the father of our Lord Jesus Christ." (Rom. 15:6).
Being of one mind. We should allow the same mind which was in Christ Jesus to be in us (Phil. 2:2-5).
We must come into the reality of the church as one body, which is the body of Christ (Rom. 12:4-5; 1 Cor. 12:11-27; Eph. 1:22-23). Our love for each member builds unity (Eph. 4:15-16).
There is no such thing as lone Christianity. We need one another.
III. Accomplishing Great Things.
"Again I say unto you, that if two of you shall agree on earth as touching anything that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven." (Matt. 18:15-20).
In these verses, Jesus is giving His disciples a revelation of the church. He has bestowed great authority to the Body (Matt. 28:18-20).
The devil and his demons do not stand a chance against a church that is praying in unity (Lev. 26:7-8; Deut. 32:30).
This is the reason why the devil will bring strife and division amongst the people of God. He knows that when Christians are in unity and one accord, his kingdom is being torn down.
IV. Overcoming Difficult Circumstances.
"...and when he had apprehended him [Peter], he [Herod] put him in prison...but prayer was made without ceasing of the CHURCH unto God...that the Lord hath sent His angel, and hath delivered me..." (Acts 12:1-11).
Persecution was strong during the days of the early church, but the prayer life of the church was even stronger.
Great difficulties can be overcome much easier when we pray in unity as opposed to praying individually. (2 Chron. 20:1-25).
God is the God of the IMPOSSIBLE. There is nothing to hard for Him. Yet, He has chosen to make His power available only through our praying. If the church is to stand strong and tear down the gates of hell, we must learn to practice praying in UNITY.
