THE PRAYER OF FAITH
"And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive." (Matthew 21:22).
There is more than one type of prayer offered to God and one of them is the prayer of faith. This prayer, one done according to the principles God has outlined in His word, can accomplish great things for us.
I. Ask In Faith.
"But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed." (James 1:6).
When going to God with a problem or need one should always go to him expectantly, knowing that He is faithful and just.
One way to ensure that you are asking in faith is to find the promise in God's word that applies to your situation and meditate upon them (Joshua 1:8). You are sure to have success in prayer.
The important part is to ask. We can not expect to receive unless we first do this (Matt. 7:7-11).
We should always remember that the divine prerequisite in prayer is to pray to the father in Jesus name (John 15:13-16).
II. Believe That You Receive.
"Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them." (Mark 11:24).
Our physical senses cannot conceive of seeing something unless it is physically before us. Not so with the prayer of faith. After we have brought our request before God, reminded Him of His Word (Isa 43:26), then we should be confident that we have what we asked for (Rom. 4:21).
Now faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen (Heb. 11:1). Though hope is important to have, it is not enough. Faith says I have it now regardless of whether I see it or not.
If we believe that we have received something from someone, we thank that person. In the prayer of faith we should always end it with thanksgiving and praise (Phil. 4:6-7). This is an expression of our faith. We should do this everyday until we physically see the answer.
III. Some Things The Prayer of Faith Can Do.
"If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed....nothing shall be impossible unto you." (Matt. 17:20).
Let us look at some things the prayer of faith can do:
(1) Bring us divine healing (James 5:15).
(2) Bring us wisdom (James 1:5-6).
(3) Bring us salvation (Eph. 2:8-9).
(4) Bring us Help from God (2 Chron. 20:4).
(5) Bring us Fulness of joy (John 16:24).
(6) Bring us the Holy Spirit baptism (Gal. 3:2; Luke 11:13).
(7) Move mountains out of our way (Mark 11:23; Matt. 21:21; 17:20).
(8) Anything else in that we need (John 14:14).
Praying should not be a religious exercise or something to pass the time away. Prayer should always be used to accomplish a purpose. The prayer of faith will always accomplish the purpose of God.
