THE SECRET OF VICTORY OVER SIN


Psalms 119:11


I. We Must Use The Word Of God Against Temptation.

    1. Satan always brings suggestions to our minds to cause us to sin - Gen. 3:1-13.

      1. This temptation could have been overcome if the Word had been applied - Gen. 2:15-17.


    1. The Word hidden in our hearts can stop the temptation before it becomes sin - Matt. 4:1-11.


    1. Temptation will first come to the mind. We must bring such thoughts to obedience of God's Word - 2 Cor. 10:3-5; Eph. 6:17.


    1. God is able to help us in times of temptation - Heb. 2:18; Luke 22:40-46.


II. Know What The Word Says Concerning The Cross And The Blood.

    1. Jesus death burial and ressurection has already taken care of our sin - Matt. 1:21; 1John 3:5; 1 Pet. 2:24; Rom. 6:6, 7, 11, 14, 18.


    1. Both victory and forgiveness for sin is available through the blood - 1 John 1:7-10.


    1. We must apply faith in these facts and make them a reality in our lives.


III. Walk In The Spirit.

    1. God has given us His Holy Spirit to give us power over sin - Gal. 5:16-25; Rom. 8:1-5, 9-13.


    1. When we walk in the Spirit we operate in love. Love has no desire to sin - Rom. 13:8-10.


    1. We must allow the Holy Spirit to control us - Eph. 5:18.


IV. A Word About Demons And Sin.

    1. There has been much teaching in the Charismatic movement about demons. Though they are a problem we should not blame everything on them. Deal with YOU first - James 1:13-22.


    1. There are familiar spirits (Lev. 19:31; 1 Chron. 10:13) that are know you so well they know exactly what can cause you to sin. Nevertheless, with God's Word in our hearts they can be overcome.


    1. There is no need to have a devil cast out of you every time you sin. Know the Word.
