Mark 16:18
NOTE: As with the lesson on demons,
this should not be considered a standard formula for ministering to the
sick. You should always remain sensitive to the leading of the Holy Spirit.
However, if the gifts of healings are not in operation or the Holy Spirit
has not directed you in any special way, we suggest you follow the principles
laid out in this outline.
1. The first thing to do is build up the person's faith towards healing.
A. Let them know God's desire for their healing (3 John 2; Mark 1:40-42).
B. Show them scriptures on healing - Rom. 10:17; Prov. 4:20-22.
C. Explain to them that Christ died for their sicknesses as well as their sins - Isa 53:4-5 (Matt. 8:17; 1 Pet. 2:24).
D. Let them know that sickness is the devil's work - Acts 10:30; Job 2:7; Luke 13:16.
E. Give them a testimony of your healing or someone you prayed for who got healed - Rev. 12:11.
2. Preparation for laying on of hands.
A. Ask them do they believe that God will heal them when you lay hands on them.
B. If possible, anoint them with oil (This is not always necessary) - James 5:14-15
C. If there are sins in the individual's life then lead them into a prayer of confession - James 5:15-16 (Mark 2:5-12; Psalm 103:1-5).
D. Join your faith with their's (Matt. 18:19).
E. Lay hands on the recipient. Pray the prayer of faith and rebuke the sickness in the name of Jesus.
F. Have the recipient
praise and thank God for the healing whether they see it or not (Mark 11:24;
Philippians 4:6; Psalm 67:5-7).
3. Dealing with a sick sinner (One who is not yet born again).
A. YOU must be operating in FULL faith. You cannot always expect a sinner to have faith.
B. Ask the person's permission to pray for him or her.
C. If possible, lead them to Christ.
D. Lay hands on them and
expect them to recover.
