Mark 16:17
1. Tongues are a sign for them that believe not.
A. 1 Corinthians 14:22.
B. The difference between
tongues as a sign (or the initial physical evidence of having received
the baptism with the Holy Spirit) and tongues as a gift - 1 Cor. 12:10,
28-30.
2. The signs demonstrated on the day of Pentecost.
A. Acts 2:1-4, 12-19, 41.
B. This was the initial
physical evidence of receiving this baptism.
3. The Samaritans Receiving the baptism with the Holy Spirit.
A. Acts 8:14-20.
B. There is no mention
of tongues here. Yet something physical happened that would cause simon
to want to pay for this power. I believe that it was the same sign that
was demonstrated at Pentecost.
4. Paul spoke in tongues after his baptism with the Holy Spirit.
A. Acts 9:17-18.
B. It does not mention
in this account that Paul spoke in tongues but he himself testifies later
to this fact - 1 Cor. 14:18.
5. Tongues as a sign at Cornelius house.
A. Acts 10:44-48; 11:1-4, 18.
B. God used the sign of
tongues to deal with racism amongst the Jewish Christians.
6. The Ephesian Disciples spoke in tongues.
A. Acts 19:1-6.
B. There can be no real argument against this scripture.
